SUMMARY:Upcoming Exhibit and First Friday Event
DESCRIPTION:Decatur Area Arts Council presents DISILLUSION: The Objects of Adam G. Perschbacher on exhibit at the Anne Lloyd Gallery in the Madden Arts Center from March 1-29. Perschbacher's sharp\, straight-edged geometric designs on geometric-shaped canvases result in unique paintings that are simultaneously 2D and 3D. Unlike traditional representational paintings\, these works are devoid of meaning and seem to be more like wall sculpture.\n\n \n\nA graphic designer\, Perschbacher is also a cartoonist at heart who began his artistic endeavors as a child creating reproductions of favorite cartoons. Though he assumed he would one day apply his interests to animated storytelling\, his path diverted to minimalist art while earning his B.F.A. in painting and graphic design at the University of Illinois in Springfield. His works do\, however\, hint at the color\, energy and dynamics he grew up loving in the comics.\n\n \n\nOn Friday\, March 7 from 5-7:30 pm\, the public is invited to attend the opening of the exhibit. This free event offers a chance to meet the artist and hear Perschbacher speak about his work at 6 pm. It is also an interactive event for children through adults. Visitors are encouraged to try their hand at geometric art-making and learn some tricks for creating sharp designs! Families welcome\, ages 5-up.\n\n \n\nThe exhibit is funded in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency. For more information\, contact the Decatur Area Arts Council at 423-3189.
