Chief of Park Police

SUMMARY
Direct and supervise law enforcement operations and personnel in the Park District in order to protect park property and assist the community in the proper use of park facilities.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and recommend policies, procedures and processes to protect life and property in the park property.
  • Supervise all personnel and activities of the Decatur Park District Park Police in accordance with all applicable laws and ordinances.
  • Prepare and report required crime statistics to State Police and other authorized agencies.
  • Investigate all citizen complaints assuring that Park Police operations are conducted with integrity and in a professional law enforcement manner.
  • Develop and administer the Park District law enforcement budget.
  • Coordinates internal investigations of department members in the event of alleged wrong doing and subsequently suspends or demotes members of force for infractions of rules or inefficiency when applicable.
  • When required, must be able to engage with groups in a public speaking setting to discuss departmental initiatives.
  • Coordinate with applicable staff and communicate with government agencies to obtain funds for special operations or for purchasing equipment for department.
  • Stay up to date on all local, state, and federal laws and policies
  • Patrol all District parks and facilities being watchful for criminal activities and violations of regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate relationships and coordinate activities with other law enforcement agencies and the State Attorney’s office.
  • Be certified, or able to obtain certification within 6 months from date of hire, or as training schedule allows,with the Chief’s Training Program through ILETSB
  • Other duties may be assigned.
