Head Football Coach
The Head Football Coach will have overall responsibility to develop and operate a competitive intercollegiate program by recruiting, retaining, teaching, and mentoring quality student-athletes in the program. The head coach will also manage the football staff effectively and efficiently.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Recruit and retain athletically skilled and academically qualified student-athletes into the football program.
Oversee the football operating budget with integrity.
Develop and implement modern and effective football techniques and strategies through practices and competitions.
Arrange transportation and practices schedules in context of department guidelines, working with appropriate departmental and institutional personnel.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with local media, high school coaches, the Decatur community and the extended Millikin University community to promote the football program in a positive manner.
Comply with all applicable Millikin University, CCIW and NCAA rules, regulations and policies.
Develop a competitive season schedule of non-conference games within the NCAA Division III philosophy.
Attend all departmental, conference and other professional meetings.
Serve on institutional committees and task forces as assigned.
Serve as Lindsay Field and Track Facility Monitor.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises others. Fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the university’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training staff members, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining staff members; and addressing complaints and resolving issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to succeed in a result-driven professional organization. Maintaining professional performance, demeanor, team-approach and focus on results while working under pressure in a dynamic environment. Ability to establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision, and facilitate teamwork. Highly organized, with the ability to plan, execute and multitask to meet deadlines. Must have a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Education and/or Experience
Required:
Bachelor’s degree
Five years of college coaching or equivalent
Extensive knowledge of the sport of football
Ability to recruit and retain quality football student-athletes
Excellent organization, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to various audiences
Ability and willingness to work effectively in a team atmosphere in the Athletic Department
Strong commitment to the University and NCAA Division III philosophy
Demonstrated commitment to the academic and athletic success of the student-athlete
