Description
Gardening Insights is day about all things horticulture and gardening. Whether you are just starting to dabble in gardening or are an experienced gardener, we have something for you! Join the Macon County Master Gardeners for a unique and fun day of horticulture programs. With 13 classes to choose from, beginning and expert gardeners will find topics of interest. This year our keynote speaker, Chicago-based author Amanda Thomsen, is sure to have you laughing with delight as she approaches gardening with her light-hearted attitude. Amanda’s playful approach, Felco pruners tattoo and signature black-rimmed cat’s eye glasses will show you that gardening is an adventure. She will have you looking beyond the norm and embracing the what that makes you who you are. Amanda Thomsen’s book, Kiss My Aster, will be available for purchase. She will be available to sign books immediately after her presentation. During our lunch sessions, we are featuring speaker Connor Shaw from Possibility Place in Monee. Conner is a leader in growing Illinois native trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants. He will have you thinking about how you can successfully incorporate native shrubs into your landscape. Class topics include: Farm to Table | Arranging with Fresh Cut Flowers | Native Illinois Shrubs for the Urban Landscape | Freezing and Drying Safely | Water Gardens | Beneficial Insects and Bio Pesticides | Edible Flowers | Tree Care and Urban Soils | Secrets of Growing Great Tomatoes | Create a Fairy Jar Glow Lantern | Kokedama String Gardening | Urban Vegetable Gardening | Choosing the Perfect Tree Lunch is included in admission price. Coffee and tea will be provided. Some classes have an additional fee. Register by February 20 at go.illinois.edu/dmp or call 217.877.6042.
