Description
The public is invited to Antioch Missionary Baptist Church's third annual inspirational instrumental concert on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. This year's theme is "Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.", Psalm 150:3-6. Once again the concert will be a special worship service benefiting Antioch Christian Academy which is celebrating its tenth anniversary.
Special guest this year will be Jeff Majors, renowned harp master. As a native of Washington, D. C., music flowed throughout the household of Jeff Majors courtesy of his mother Annie P. Fitzgerald, a talented jazz trumpeter in her own right with a circle of friends which included legendary actress and singer Pearl Bailey. Mr. Majors spent several years in Los Angeles studying under the wings of legendary harpist Dorothy Ashby, and jazz pianist and harpist Alice Coltrane, wife of jazz legend John Coltrane.
Hailed as an inspirational jazz/gospel producer and renowned harp master, he has touched the hearts of millions through his television program, TV One's "Gospel of Music with Jeff Majors" which provides a venue for diverse well-known and emerging talent. His show has also showcased some of the biggest names in the industry, including Marvis Staples, Shirley Caesar and Yolanda Adams.
Mr. Majors was hand-picked by the Martin Luther King Family to perform at Coretta Scott King's memorial service demonstrating that his music could console a nation. His latest project "Sacred X" includes some of the most memorable performances on the harp.
Local Decatur and surrounding musicians will also perform. They include the Rev. Dr. C. D. Stuart, pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, on saxophone; A'Majeine Carson, 2014 graduate of Antioch Christian Academy, on piano; Christian Clayton on cello; Matthew Clayton on violin; Casey Fitzpatrick from Chicago, on saxophone; Conrad Lee on guitar; Jaedan Love from Grand Rapids, MI on drums; Micoti Parker on drums; the Rev. Michael Stapleton on keyboards; Andreas Walker on drums; Myah White on piano; and Paris Woods on saxophone. Also performing will be Antioch Christian Academy students playing flutophones.
In addition to solos and duets, all of the musicians will play together at the conclusion of the concert accompanied by a special vocal ensemble under the direction of Mrs. Earma Taylor.
This year's instrumental concert was again organized and produced by Mrs. Taylor, who is also a percussionist and singer. According to her "God gave me a vision almost four years ago to have an instrumental concert featuring local musicians playing sacred music as a way to encourage and instill more music appreciation to our youth. Secondly, for the concert to be a financial blessing to our church school, Antioch Christian Academy which is pre-kindergarten through sixth grades." A free will offering will be taken during the concert.
All are invited to some out and hear these God-gifted musicians as they play songs of praise and worship to our Lord and Savior.
