School Age Child Care Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families. The Group Teacher works as a supportive leader among staff to provide effective programs and a warm, safe, loving and nurturing environment in which the child can grow physically, emotionally and intellectually.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Supervise students in the program and always know the total number of students in attendance.

2. Staff should have the site set up before the first student arrives and should remain setup until the last student leaves.

3. Inspect and clean program areas before and after use. This includes, but is not limited to tables, bathrooms, playgrounds, classrooms, and gyms.

4. Maintain accurate attendance and food program records.

5. Address and document all behavior issues.

6. Turn in weekly lesson plans and supply list at least 2 weeks in advance.

7. Staff should incorporate the four core values into the program: Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility

8. Daily activities will include a minimum of 30 minutes of homework or reading

9. One new or unique structured activity

10. 30 minutes physical activity.

11. At least two educational activities should be done every week.

12. Groups should complete one service project per month.

13. Bulletin boards will be updated monthly.

14. Staff will talk to parents every day about what their student did at the program and communicate any upcoming events or schedule changes.

15. Staff should complete other jobs as assigned by their supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be at least 18 years old

2. Must be a high school graduate or have a GED

3. Prefer some previous experience in a preschool or day care setting

4. Must be able to provide 3 letters of references

5. Must complete a Health physical and TB testing and renew every 2 years

6. Must complete provided trainings, including:

Child Abuse Prevention Training

Blood Borne Pathogens Training

Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Training

Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED

7. Maintain 15 hours of in-service training per year as required by DCFS

8. Must have good organizational skills

9. Must possess good language skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
