Maintenance Planner
Key responsibilities: Maintenance Planner
- Daily management to maintain 2-4 week complete ‘ready’ back log that is in alignment with production needs.
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures
- Plan maintenance jobs for assigned plant areas including all details needed to schedule and execute each job - procedures, labor, time, parts, tools, access, permitting, etc.
- Partner closely with maintenance supervisors for assigned areas each day to maintain proper priority for planning workflow
- Incorporate feedback on completed planned jobs from maintenance supervisors, reliability team, mechanics, maintenance storage, operations, and skilled crafts to create a continuous improvement loop for job plans and planning procedures
- Build and maintain database of job plans
- Provide daily communications with a wide range of plant personnel
- Provide labor and costs estimates
Planning Expectations
- Maintain advance planning visibility:
- 1 week out: 100% planned
- 2 weeks out: 50% planned
- Identify and verify all required resources for non‑breakdown work, including:
- Materials
- Specialty tools
- Shared and specialty services
- Define job scope, estimate labor hours, and determine job duration.
- Kit all required parts for the following week and ensure they are staged in designated drop zones prior to execution.
- Identify scaffold requirements at least one week in advance.
- Coordinate with the scaffold foreman to ensure scaffolds are installed and ready before the job start date.
Coordination & Collaboration
- Establish a prioritizing partnership with the Operations Maintenance Coordinator.
- Align preventive maintenance activities within the department and across other departments.
- Prepare and distribute complete job packets to Supervisors prior to work execution.
- Gather post‑job feedback to improve execution standards and planning accuracy.
Documentation & System Management
- Maintain accurate equipment data, procedures, and planning documentation.
- Manage the SAP work order backlog using standard status codes
- Lead backlog review meetings with the Planning & Scheduling Team as needed to ensure backlog relevance and accuracy.
- Align the Planning & Scheduling Team on work order job scope.
Scheduling Responsibilities
- Provide daily open SAP notification lists to the Operations Day Resource.
- Develop weekly (5‑day) area maintenance schedules using work order priority ranking.
- Adjust schedules in Prometheus as required.
- Lead weekly scheduling meetings and communicate schedules to Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering.
- Assist in obtaining materials or services for planned work not readily available at the job site, as needed.

Skills and experience required
Required skills, experience, and traits:
- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Technology related field preferred, with five - eight years of related professional experience in a heavy industrial environment working with mechanical maintenance or engineering teams
- Experience using CMMS for maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution
- Not be bound by a job description and be able to flex to other positions as needed to meet departmental KPIs and goals.
- Must be self-motivated, diligent, detail oriented, and possess very strong time management discipline
- Ability to read and interpret prints, schematics, assembly drawings, and machine manuals
- Strong writing skills; must be able to communicate instructions and procedures clearly to skilled crafts
- Good interpersonal skills and willingness to accept and act upon feedback from others
- Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and Outlook e-mail
- Prior maintenance planning experience a must
- Familiarity with SAP maintenance system is preferred but not required
Total Rewards
The annual pay range estimated for this position is $78,768.80 - $98,461.00 and is bonus eligible.
