Description
Decatur Area Arts Council presents a unique photography exhibit from September 6-30 in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center, 125 N. Water St. in downtown Decatur.
Four young women photographers will be featured: Vera Gavrilovic and Angie McMonigal from Chicago, Kaitlin Powell from Decatur and Jordana Wright, originally from Paris, IL. and now basing out of Chicago. While these women have never met each other, their work demonstrates a shared eye for the elements of design that surround them. They are all drawn to the urban environment for the natural design offered by the architecture and myriad of subjects around every turn. They all find interest and inspiration in subjects the rest of us might overlook, filming subjects from unusual perspectives and occasionally leaving the viewer to guess what the subject may have been.
The opening reception will be held on Friday evening, September 6 from 5-7:30 pm. In addition to unveiling the main exhibit, An Eye Toward Design, the opening includes a second photography exhibit by members of the Decatur Camera Club displayed on the 3rd floor of the Madden Arts Center (September 6-13.) In conjunction with Millikin University’s Blue Connection and KirkOut, music will be provided by the Millikin Faculty Jazz Ensemble whose jazz sounds will be interpreted on site by Millikin University art students from Carriage House. Their collaboration is called “The Art of Improvisation.”
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. For more exhibit information, contact the Decatur Area Arts Council at 423-3189 or check the website at www.decaturarts.org.
