Set Free-Macon County will host a community forum and panel discussion on domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, and how these issues impact our local youth on March 23, 2019 from 9 AM – 4:30 PM at Lampstand Presbyterian Church. Set Free-Macon County is partnering with local agencies such as Dove, Inc., Growing Strong Sexual Assault Center, and Child First Center. At this multi-sector gathering, attendees will learn more about the root causes of human trafficking in a solution-focused, hope-filled, collaborative atmosphere. In the morning, we will have an initial presentation by the founder of The Set Free Movement, Dr. & Rev. Kevin Austin. He will discuss the broader perspective of human trafficking including information regarding the work of Set Free teams around the world. Following his presentation, local Set Free team members will arrange a simulation called “The Paths We Take” to encourage attendees to engage with local and global true stories of human trafficking. Finally, we will have a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Laura Dean an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Millikin University. She will lead a panel discussion with representatives from Dove, Inc., Growing Strong Sexual Assault Center, and Child First Center. For the afternoon sessions, attendees will be directed to choose from several different workshops to further engage in the discussion. During these workshops, experts will present on topics such as: teen dating violence, the significance of mentorship, entrepreneurial community projects, and the effects of pornography. Attendees will be challenged to respond by committing to use their gifts and passions in a beneficial manner for the community. The cost is $15.00 which includes lunch.
