About the Training
Addiction has a stigma attached to it, causing many to blame the struggling
individual for the problems and assume that they should just be able to stop
using if they want to. However, research has shown that addiction is a progressive disease. Psychoactive drugs change brain function and alter emotions, consciousness, and other processes. Because of the way drugs work in the brain, addiction can form, causing compulsive behavior and a lack of control over seeking and taking the drug. An understanding of this process and what it means for those struggling with substance abuse can help a clinician better understand treatment of addictions and how to manage triggers.
What you will learn:
• History and current use of psychoactive substances
• How drugs work in the brain and what it means for addiction
• Cycle of addiction
• Cause of cravings, relapse, and triggers
