Assistant Director – Early Learning Center
At St. Paul's Early Learning Center our purpose is to serve the families of our community who desire a Christ-Centered early learning experience for their children. Working in partnership with families, who have the primary and most critical role in nurturing their children, we provide a quality, safe, caring, Christian environment where each child can develop spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively.
How will you make a difference?
Reporting to the Director of the Early Learning Center, this position will help shape the daycare, preschool and school age programming at the Center. Assisting the Director with all aspects of enrollment, staffing, curriculum, family support, special event and field trip planning, this role provides a critical support function to ensure the successful daily operation of the Center. The Assistant Director provides vital support to the ministry of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and will partner with other staff, in compliance with DCFS (Department of Child and Family Services) requirements and in alignment with the values, mission, and vision of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Early Learning Center.
What will you need to be successful?
- Ability to consistently maintain all requirements pertaining to the position and the Center as outlined by DCFS in the Licensing Standards for Day Care Centers Handbook.
- Committed to providing a strong Christian atmosphere for employees and enrolled families; support the staff in developing and maintaining positive relationships and respectful communication with parents/guardians.
- Understanding of the need for confidentiality as related to ELC families, staff, student needs, and ELC business.
- Ability to create and manage staff schedules that provide staffing levels that reflect current enrollment levels.
- Capable of accurate maintenance of employee and enrolled children’s records.
- Promotor and advocate for the Center to the congregation and community in collaboration with the church Communications staff, to ensure maximum enrollment levels are reached and maintained.
- Supervise, aid, and support employees by providing necessary resources, in-service training opportunities, regular staff meetings, staff observations and evaluations, and other needed resources.
- Ability to update all policies and procedures of the Center and ensuring staff and families are compliant.
- Collaborate with the Director to manage the Center’s budget and to research and write grant applications.
- Oversee the food program and ensure a healthy and safe environment is maintained.
- Act as a role model for staff by demonstrating punctuality, reliability, dependability, and flexibility.
- Be experience in team management and leadership with a strong ability to plan and organize.
- Full-Time 40 Hours
- Salary – From $40,000 per year depending on experience.

- Work Hours – Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm (varies)
- A minimum requirement of an associate degree in child development or early childhood education or the equivalent (defined as 64 semester hours in any discipline with a minimum of 21 semester hours of college credit in child development early childhood education or early childhood special education). A Bachelors degree in these fields is preferred.
- Five years of experience in working with children
- DCFS Director qualified and must complete and pass the required Background Check
- Demonstrate leadership, time management, team management, planning, and organizational skills
- Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and a willingness to share his or her faith with adults and children.
- An active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or another Christian church.
