Leadership & Staff Management
- Supervise and coordinate Engineering Technicians and Summer Interns
- Conduct performance evaluations, identify training needs, and set goals
- Provide technical guidance on engineering practices, software, and equipment
- Manage design, specifications, and cost estimates for municipal projects
- Oversee contractor payments, inspection reports, and project documentation
- Attend and lead construction and planning meetings
- Maintain records, maps, and plans; oversee GIS updates
- Issue Public Works permits and calculate water/sewer tapping fees
Public & Interdepartmental Coordination
- Respond to inquiries from the public, contractors, and agencies
- Investigate and resolve infrastructure-related complaints
- Coordinate underground utility locations with agencies and contractors
- Prepare legal descriptions for property acquisitions, easements, and annexations
- Supervise property research and negotiate compensation offers
- Assist with budget recommendations and material purchases
Education & Experience
- 5+ years of municipal infrastructure design/project management experience
- 2+ years of supervisory experience
- Preferred: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in project management, construction management, or civil engineering technology
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong leadership, communication, and personnel management skills
- Expertise in municipal infrastructure, construction project scheduling, and cost tracking
- Knowledge of surveying, GIS mapping, and engineering standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ArcMap GIS, and AutoCAD
- Knowledge of IDOT and IEPA standards, specifications, and construction inspection requirements.
- Ability to traverse uneven terrain and work in various weather conditions
- Valid Illinois driver’s license required
Residency
Employees are required to reside within the corporate limits of Macon County or any municipality extending into Macon County. Upon initial appointment, employees may reside outside these limits but must comply with the residency requirement within 12 months to maintain employment.
