Fleet Technician

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Lead Foreman - Maintenance, the Fleet Technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of vehicles and lawn care equipment owned by Macon Resources, Inc. as assigned to assure a safe, efficient and fully operational fleet to permit persons served to achieve (re)habilitation goals in accordance with agency policies and procedures and licensure, certification and accreditation standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Services fleet including gas powered shuttles, vans and cars, diesel trucks, and lawn care equipment; repairs limited variety and complexity of vehicles and equipment, as specified by work orders using power and hand tools, analysis, testing and measuring devices; meets expected quality and in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Performs inspections and maintains vehicles and equipment according to preventative maintenance schedules. Changes oil, spark plugs, and fluids; replaces filters, lights, hoses and belts; inspects electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems; schedules and arranges transportation of serious or unusual problems to local mechanics as needed.
  • Conducts routine diagnostic analyses to check and test vehicle parts, systems and equipment using standard diagnostic and testing instruments; troubleshoot vehicle or equipment failures and initiate minor repairs or advise team of more serious or complex problems that need to be sent out for repair.
  • Coordinates and communicates with departments as needed; facilitates routine maintenance and repairs to accommodate the needs of the various departments to eliminate excessive downtime and meeting other agency support needs.
  • Operates automotive vehicles and equipment to observe, check and assess malfunctions and repairs, conduct test runs, or otherwise transport vehicles and equipment for service or outside repair;
  • Performs snow removal; operates vehicles to assist in snow removal activities and to provide road service;
  • Cleans and maintains tools, equipment and service work area in a safe and orderly manner;
  • Records repair and maintenance information in Fleet Telematics System or work order forms to document preventative maintenance and service activities.
  • Assumes the responsibility to attend and complete the initial MRI training requirements (core training and job-specific training). On an ongoing basis, attends and participates in any required recertification or refresher sessions and/or other training deemed appropriate by the supervisor and/or the Program/Department Director within specified time frames.
  • Administer standard First Aid procedures on an as-needed basis, while maintaining current certification for both.
  • Drives safely in an official capacity to conduct agency business for MRI with no transportation of individuals/families served; observes all local, state, and federal laws, as well as all agency policies and procedures.
  • Communicates, retains, and releases information (both written and verbal) on a need-to-know basis and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and Macon Resources, Inc. Policies and Procedures.
  • Practices and enforces MRI Safety Policies and Procedures and assures the safety of staff, persons/families served, agency guests, and agency property.
  • Keeps supervisor informed verbally and in writing of problems and activities within assigned area of responsibility; refers matters beyond the limit of authority and expertise to the supervisor for direction.
  • Performs special projects or other related work within the scope of the job responsibilities of this position as required or requested.
