Job Description

Analytics Engineer - Decatur, IL

The Analytics Engineer – Manufacturing Cost Excellence role delivers real-time visibility into losses, predictive insights, and automated improvement opportunities that directly drive cost reduction and operational efficiency across ADM’s Global Operations network.

This position integrates operational, financial, and utilization data into scalable digital solutions—including Digital Value Stream Mapping (DVSM)—that guide leadership decision-making and enable plant teams with accurate, consistent cost and loss insights.

Success requires strong engineering fundamentals, systems thinking, and the ability to translate analytics into measurable operational and financial outcomes. The role partners closely with plant operations, maintenance, finance, and analytics teams to influence behaviors, ensure consistent cost methodologies, and accelerate continuous improvement across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering, Analytics & Systems Thinking

  • Design and build end-to-end DVSM systems that connect process flow, equipment performance, cost structures, and downtime data into a unified view of loss and value.
  • Apply engineering principles and deep process understanding to structure data, define system relationships, and identify the root causes of cost drivers across unit operations.
  • Build analytical and predictive models that explain and forecast cost variances, energy intensity, yield loss, and throughput constraints.
Business Outcomes & Financial Impact
  • Translate analytical findings into actionable recommendations that reduce losses, lower cost per unit, and improve asset utilization.
  • Quantify financial impact of improvement opportunities and partner with operations and finance to validate and track realized value.
  • Standardize global KPI definitions and cost methodologies to ensure consistent measurement, benchmarking, and decision making across sites.
Cross‑Functional Influence & Change Leadership
  • Serve as a strategic partner to VP Cost Excellence, Global Operations leadership, plant operations, technology, and finance, ensuring adoption and consistent use of cost analytics tools.
  • Facilitate alignment between OT, IT, engineering, and finance to ensure data quality, consistency, and integration into business processes.
  • Train operators, engineers, and leaders on DVSM and loss trees, building organizational capability in digital cost analytics.
Digital Architecture & Tool Development
  • Build automated loss trees, opportunity sizing engines, and real‑time cost visibility tools.
  • Execute advanced PI Asset Framework tasks including tag structuring, calculations, and template development to enable scalable and reliable analytics.
  • Serve as the primary technical support contact for Cost Analytics tools and ensure ongoing system reliability and enhancement.
Continuous Improvement & Personal Development
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of manufacturing processes, analytics technologies, and cost excellence methodologies.
  • Complete ADM Manufacturing Analytics and Lean Six Sigma training and participate in additional development based on skills assessments.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing and 2+ years of applied analytics experience.
  • Experience supporting 24/7 manufacturing operations.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with the PI Suite/PI AF, including template development and calculations.
  • Experience with JMP/JMP Live and strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Experience building PowerBI dashboards
  • Strong understanding of key operational metrics, including OEE, yield, throughput, energy intensity, and cost per unit.
Engineering & Analytical Ability
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and systems thinking to process data.
  • Experience developing predictive or explanatory models for cost or performance outcomes.
  • Experience with Digital Value Stream Mapping (DVSM), cost modeling, or financial analysis (preferred).
Collaboration & Communication
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with operations, maintenance, IT/OT, and finance teams.
Certifications & Other Requirements
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt/Black Belt) preferred.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and willingness to complete Business Improvement training.
  • Willingness to travel to ADM facilities as needed. The role will be primarily based in Decatur for the foreseeable future. In coming years, travel may increase up to 25% to include other facilities.
Excited about this role but don’t think you meet every requirement listed? We encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this role or another one of our openings.
